Safety for our girls, volunteers and staff is the highest priority for Girl Scouts. A key part of security is to maintain a complete file on our volunteers. Earlier phases of this process started with fingerprinting a portion of the volunteer base. Later phases processed all new, in-coming volunteers for the past three years and large groups of specific volunteer positions such as Troop Cookie Manager, Day and Resident Camp Volunteers, Event Volunteers, etc.
Now we are ready to start working on the files of the largest group remaining---the more established volunteers, including the now out-of-date original fingerprinted group. To be sure, it will take time to manage such a large population. We have over 11,000 volunteers who serve nearly 30,000 girls. Here’s how we can work together during this 2008-2009 membership year to accomplish this task together:
We ask all service units to help generate the files on all volunteers in their area who supervise the girls or handle money/finances. That would include Leader, Co-Leader, Troop Treasurer, Troop Product Sales Volunteer, Camping Volunteer, and relevant Service Unit Team members.
Three forms are required for a complete file (click on Volunteer Forms above):
--Volunteer Disclosure Authorization and Release
--Volunteer Application
--Volunteer Agreement
The required forms will be available at service unit meetings, at resource centers, and online. Volunteer Support Coordinators will carry hardcopies of forms to meetings and mail out forms upon request. Returning completed forms can be mailed in the envelopes provided, dropped off in person at Balboa or transported by staff in sealed envelopes.
Thank you for helping continue to keep Girl Scouts safe!
